Humor-- The importance of asking Why?

Sam’s wife Julie sent him to the store to buy a ham for Sunday dinner.  After he got home, Julie asked Sam why he didn’t have the butcher cut off the end of the ham.  Sam asked his wife why she wanted the end cut off.  Julie replied, “That’s how my momma always did it.”  Since Julie’s mother was visiting at the time, they asked her why she always cut off the end of the ham.  Julie’s mom replied, “That’s how my momma always did it.”  Sam decided to call grandma to get to the bottom of all of this, so they got grandma on the phone.  Julie and her mom related to grandma that they always cut off the end of the ham because that is what grandma always did it.  So Julie asked Grandma, “Why is it that we cut off the end of the ham?”  Grandma replied, “I cut the end it off ‘cause my pan was too small.  I don’t know why you do it.”
